Summer sunflower

Summer sunflower
Drab and bent, head hanging low
An old man dying

——————————–
This was a hard one to write… But I’ve been staring at this poor sunflower for weeks, recalling its magnificence from the summer- it was one seed that must have been mixed into the ones I planted- it was a giant amongst the dwarf ones I chose. It thrived and was the biggest sunflower I ever grew. I’m sad it is fall and that I must cut it now, but I know he chickadees will enjoy it. This was the old man in his prime this summer…
